Tallawong is a relatively new suburb, located on the traditional lands of the Dharug people, formed from parts of Schofields and Rouse Hill in 2020. Transformed into a high-density residential hub centred around Tallawong Metro and Tallawong Village, it offers a lively village atmosphere, alongside moments of calm while visiting the serene Buddhist temple along First Ponds Creek.
Starting your day at Tallawong Village, it’s the heart of the suburb, where locals gather for groceries, coffee, services and great food. Durk’s Cafe + Eatery is right in the middle of the action, with the Metro, businesses and residential apartments close by, it’s the ideal spot to enjoy your in-house blend coffee.
Afterwards, pop into Ambey’s Big Apple for a fresh juice or smoothie and to explore the aisles of this family-owned business. Specialising in fruit and veg delivered by farmers and from markets, they place an emphasis on supporting the Aussie farming community. A fantastic place to pick up some local goodies to take home with you.
Within the village you’ll discover Colourful Wine. Owned by Antoine and Dominique, they run creative workshops such as sip and paint and resin art experiences. It’s a welcoming space with walls covered in art, an inhouse café and even a bar, so you can pair your creative spark with a boutique Australian wine or fun fruity cocktail. Encouraging connection and creativity, this is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon or evening.
When visiting with kids, there’s a great playground beside Hidden Grounds Brasserie, so you can enjoy a meal while the kids play. Cuto Kids Café also has some colourful indoor play spaces that kids are sure to love.
For lunch you are spoilt for choice, including Dosa Hut Indian Restaurant, My Lotus Cafe, Hale Burgers and Enzo’s Cucina. Such a fun way to eat is by sushi train at Sushi Chizuru, where you can build your own tasting adventure. WEST loved trying new flavours and the grilled scallops with special sauce.
If you love dessert, Fond Patisserie is a must visit. Owned by Livia, everything is baked in-house and you can experience Asian-inspired flavours such as ube, pandan, matcha and yuzu. The bright purple ube cheesecake is earthy and creamy, definitely one to try. You can also stop at Icy Bear for Italian frozen yoghurt, the best part is all the amazing toppings to choose from.
Before heading home, a visit to Lankarama Buddhist Vihara is a serene stopover. The grounds are peaceful and inviting, you can feel the serenity as soon as you enter the gardens. A large, white Stupa housing a golden Buddha statue is quite the sight, inviting you to step inside for quiet reflection. You can choose to explore the garden and statues, or take a seat for meditation or mindful contemplation, a meaningful visit on your day out in Tallawong.
Tallawong may be a young suburb, but it’s one full of culture, flavour and discovery, a suburb encouraging creativity, play and community connection inviting you to explore. Explore with West.
