Round Corner: Semi-Rural Meets Modern-Day Living

Located on the fertile lands of Dharug Country, the township of Round Corner can be found nestled in The Hills Shire district. With two-thirds of rural land used for farming and agriculture, its reputation as “Sydney’s Garden Shire” certainly rings true.

Driving into Round Corner, the first thing you can’t help but notice are the trees. Big gum trees, oak trees, eucalyptus trees, a blanket of green. Passing nursery farms and homes with manicured gardens, it’s semi-rural living at its best.

In Round Corner - so named for its sweeping bend - you’ll find where the locals gather. In 1906, the Thompson family were the first to establish a general store and bakery here, and that legacy continues today in a town centre full of small cafes, eateries, grocers and shops.

Taking your time to explore, make your way to Thre3 Brothers Fresh for delish deli staples, then on to the popular Salt Café, with its fun pink decor and playful Jess Macc artwork it’s a great place for a coffee. Other local favourites include Bae Dural and Saturdays (well-loved for their healthy version banana breads).

To further feel the heart of Round Corner, a visit to some of the small businesses just outside is how you will find it. Meet friendly beekeeper Duncan at his home based honey shop, Amanda at Sydney Hills Horse Riding Centre with her warm hospitality, and the affable Clinton at Ray Nesci Bonsai Nursery. A nursery famous Sydney wide.

Along Old Northern Road are more things to discover, including fresh farm produce at Dural Kiosk and Dural Rural Farm, memorable interactive experiences at Golden Ridge Animal Farm (bookings required), and delicious meals and the ambience at Wildpear Cafe.

WEST recommends stopping to admire St Judes Anglican Church. Constructed in 1846, it is one of the earliest buildings in the area. Built in the English Norman style, its sandstone walls are covered in vines which make for a magnificent sight, and its shady courtyard offers some peaceful stillness before continuing on.

When ready for lunch, you’re spoiled for choice. Round Corner is a cultural patchwork - Thai, Vietnamese, Lebanese and more. For an authentic Mediterranean experience, then Billy’s will take you there. With Greek music playing, colourful mezze plates and crisp white tablecloths, you’ll be by the Aegean Sea before you know it.

After an inspiring day of exploring, the defining feeling of Round Corner and its surrounds is hospitality. The warm and welcoming nature of locals means Round Corner is not just a destination, it’s a local experience, where you’re always welcome to return. Sit back, relax and soak it all in.
