Follow Your Appetite to Pendle Hill

A tapestry of colour and flavour, Pendle Hill is a vibrant suburb bursting with multicultural character and authentic Southeast Asian cuisine. Located on the traditional lands of the Dharug People, its bustling town centre is lined with colourful sari shops, unexpected local treasures and authentic Sri Lankan and Indian flavours. The perfect destination for inquisitive explorers and enthusiastic foodies.

Arriving by train into Pendle Hill Station, it’s a great opportunity to take in the view of the town centre below. What you will soon experience is a thriving, energetic suburb, full of local businesses sharing culture, stories and food - wonderful food.

 

From the station, head downstairs onto Pendle Way and start your day at Sree Flavours with a traditional Indian filter coffee. Pair it with a nostalgic banana fritter or a flaky egg puff, a South Indian bakery snack filled with spicy onion masala and boiled egg. It’s a tasty introduction to the flavours you’ll discover throughout the suburb.



Enjoy the energy of Pendle Hill with a wander of the local stores. The vibrant sari shops are a highlight, with beautiful fabrics, intricate patterns and colourful designs. Step inside VALAMPURI and you’re more than likely to find something you love.

 

One of Pendle Hill’s most unexpected discoveries is Woodpecker Model Railways. A local institution since 1985, its intricate model displays bring miniature worlds to life, complete with trains, cars, landscapes, animals and people. Even rock legend Rod Stewart has visited. It’s an endearing find and a reminder that you never quite know what you’ll discover when exploring.


 

Continue your day with a visit to King Fish Market, where seafood is sourced directly from Sydney Fish Market each morning. For something savoury on the go, snack on Sydney Marina’s moreish dal vadai and onion bhaji. SPC Bazaar also has plenty of Southeast Asian snacks to satisfy adventurous food lovers.

 


For lunch, Pendle Hill is where cuisine from Southeast Asia is celebrated and shared, a wonderful reflection of the culture of the local community. WEST loved the friendly service at Cinnamon Leaf, a restaurant crafting authentic Sri Lankan dishes. Their hoppers are fluffy and perfectly cooked, and go so well with the deliciously punchy fish curry. The bitter melon curry is an exciting one to try for its distinctive flavours.



After lunch, visit Sai Nursery to browse their Ayurvedic plant selections before finishing your day at Civic Park, the heart of the neighbourhood. It’s a space that invites community play, exercise and reflection. Take a wander past the Maltese memorial and through Harmony Garden, where colourful artwork adds a splash of personality. Challenge someone to badminton, let the kids loose on the playground or fit in a workout at the outdoor gym, there’s hours of fun to be had here.



Hop on a train, bring your appetite and spend a day exploring with WEST. Packed with vibrant cultural food, unique local businesses and welcoming community spaces. Pendle Hill has it all.
