Abbotsbury, on the traditional lands of the Cabrogal of the Dharug Nation, is a standout destination for the nature and outdoor enthusiast. Largely encompassing the Western Sydney Parklands, there’s no shortage of ways to explore, unwind, and live it up with outdoor activities.
Start your morning at Goliath Coffee Roasters brew bar, on The Horsley Drive, just up the road from the parklands. A true local favourite, Goliath draws a loyal crowd with its in-house roasted coffee, seasonal single origins, and warm welcome. Take a seat by the open-air window and chat with owners David and Clarissa to learn more about their unique coffee processes and involvement with the Powerhouse Museum Food Producers Series. Also - the coffee is delicious.
Next, head to Lizard Log playground in the Western Sydney Parklands. A magical playground for kids, the play equipment is integrated with its natural bushland setting. Tree stumps act as balancing beams while lizard-like logs are great for climbing on. With picnic tables and BBQ facilities, it’s easy to settle in for hours of fun.
Take a short stroll up the hill to Pimelea Hilltop Lookout for views over the surrounding suburbs, and if you’re up for it, continue on to The Dairy, a 20-minute walk away. A lovely spot to enjoy some stunning scenic views. On your way out of the parklands, stop at Saluti by Novella for a café treat, or a relaxed meal in their refined restaurant setting.
A short drive along Cowpasture Road brings you to Calmsley Hill City Farm. Once part of the Big Brother Movement, from 1947 young British migrants were trained here in agricultural work. Some of that history remains, where you can see farm and native animals, along with farming shows and demonstrations, perfect for a fun, educational visit.
For an adventurous outdoor activity, Treetops Adventure has a junior tree ropes course for kids, with the adults course spread across elevated platforms high up in the trees – not for the faint hearted! A very fun way to spend an afternoon. Nearby Plough and Harrow playground is another great stop for families.
For lunch, get yourself quick smart to Cugini & Co. This local gem delivers big on flavour and vibes. One mouthful of the house favourite Rigatoni Vodka pasta was like being in an Italian mama’s kitchen. Creamy burrata spilling into the most delicious sauce, paired with an Italian Chinotto will have you saying Bellissimo.
A visit to Abbotsbury is sure to become a favourite, with so much to see and do, fun activities, time in nature, great food and everything wrapped up in one easy, adventure-filled day. Explore with West.
