Take a wander and discover the lovely commercial buildings giving the town its character. A town full of a variety of pubs; it certainly must have been a busy spot in times gone by. Today these pubs are being renovated, reinvigorated and reenergised. The Lidcombe Hotel is a great example of this with a very new and beautiful interior and fresh exterior to boot. The Railway Hotel, with its distinct pale lemon exterior and art deco style, is another landmark over on Joseph Street as well as the Royal Oak Hotel with again a newly refurbished interior and a destination much loved by locals.

As you explore the town, the beauty of many of its old public buildings, and churches such as St Joachim’s Catholic Church or the old post office that is now the Pang Pang Karoke Bar create a contrast to the old and the new. It’s a beautiful juxtaposition and gives Lidcombe its own, unique character and flavour

Lidcombe is a foodies heaven and again you will find a host of options. The pubs just mentioned do a great range of food. Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Club is a destination in and of itself, undergoing a huge renovation and will be the home of more entertainment, food and events in the town centre. Right outside you will find a host of Korean restaurants, cafes and eateries such as Yeodongsik where people literally, line up waiting for the doors to open. This is famous for having only 11 items on the menu and the makers of the Bone Broth (or hangover) soup.

One place which is a must-visit, is Mrs Sunshine. A humble, local favourite also on John Street specialising in takeaway mandu or dumplings. Sunshine is a sweet (or savoury) little discovery with freshly baked goods, often right before your eyes. The Red Bean Fish-shaped treats look as good as they smell and taste even better. Drop in, say hi and treat yourself.

With all that activity you are going to need to find a way to burn off some of the good food. Well, we have you sorted. ROKETTO is one of those unexpected and brilliant places you discover in your travel, tucked away on Carter Street. This place is full of colour fun and energy. The home of everything badminton, this beautiful facility is owned by Asok Boopathy who won Silver medals in his youth in Malaysia and then went on to represent the US National team in 1992. The dedication, love and desire to share the love of this sport with others emanates throughout the absolutely, HUGE facility.

Need a dash of nostalgia? Then make your way to the heritage-listed former Lidcombe Hospital Precinct. This beautiful residential estate, known as Botanica is framed by an old gate-house and an avenue of very old trees alongside the Forensic Medicine & Coroners Court Complex. Tucked away behind the court complex, the idyllic, charming and very beautiful buildings have all been restored and converted into private homes. There is The Brooks Café set amongst the stunning buildings and Brooks Circuit Park in the centre, in a very village style, to stretch and take in the fresh air.

Lidcombe is truly a place of great depth and beauty. Centrally located, easy to access and with a thriving local community. This is a place to come back to time and time again.
