LUGARNO

Named after Lake Lugano in Switzerland, it's more than just the name that reflects the European feel of this riverside town.

Encapsulated by the Georges River, Lugarno is known for its large areas of bushland and neighboured by Peakhurst and Riverwood. The small community feel is infectious with the local grocer, deli, bar and restaurant all located within the neighbourhood streets of the suburb.

Driving into Lugarno stop into Gannons Park which runs through the upper east side of Lugarno for a place to stretch your legs and enjoy a piece of green space. Acting as a green corridor, Gannons Park provides the local area with sporting fields, dog parks and bike tracks. After a few years of renovations, the Boggywell creek is flowing again through the park.

Continue driving down to the end of Forest Road, past the boat repair shop to the Lugarno Boardwalk. Adjacent to the boardwalk is the Lugarno Seafood restaurant – a white tablecloth eatery with views out over the waterfront. If you want to get close to the water, then head down the boardwalk and take a stroll to enjoy the Georges River and Edith Bay.

After exploring the riverside, head back up Forest Road and into Respite Bar on Lime Kiln Road for an afternoon cocktail.

Respite, meaning ‘a short period of rest or relief from something difficult or unpleasant’ is the perfect interpretation of what the Respite Bar encapsulates. Check out The Parchment and find yourself a classic bar cocktail, or perhaps try something a little more special on The Parchment II – a curated selection of drinks, often named by frequents of the bar. With the extensive menu, there is sure to be a drink for everyone.

Run by three friends with a passion for good drinks and food to match. Respite Bar transports you to a small close-knit European village with local values and great produce. The main star of the bar is, of course, the cocktails. The meats for the antipasto board are sliced to order, and the cheeseboard fits in perfectly.

After spending an afternoon in Lugarno head back up Belmore Road to Riverwood to a local favourite Roma Capoccia. Authentic Italian food is what this place has to offer. Run by beloved local Fredrico, the restaurant is a culinary gem. The homemade pastas and desserts are exceptional as is the atmosphere created by this authentic Italian experience.

Enjoy a lazy afternoon by the riverside in Lugarno accessible by car, train or even boat, and stay for a genuinely amazing local experience.
