MACQUARIE FIELDS

A pocket of peaceful living with community atmosphere, Macquarie Fields is a tranquil suburb on Dharawal land. With excellent parks, state-of-the-art sport and recreation, a river beach, and a fascinating history, Macquarie Fields is an unassuming yet worthwhile Western Sydney destination for a visit.

Macquarie Fields is bordered by the Georges River, Bunbury Curran Creek, and Main Southern Line. The Macquarie Fields Station is an easy stop along the railway line, which goes down through Campbelltown and into the Wollondilly Shire. It’s also an easy drive from the Cutler VC Interchange, so close to the Liverpoool LGA.

Start your day with a coffee at Morning Kick which is inside the nostalgic Glenquarie Town Centre. Serving locals their daily caffeine hit, this cafe has a great busy atmosphere. It’s a great place for a cake, classic brekky or even lunch - we loved their Persian Avocado Eggs on Toast – delicious.

Next, visit Simmo’s Beach, a popular local, well-known recreation spot with playgrounds, BBQ areas, and the sandy bank of the Georges River. Named after a local larrikin Bob ‘Simmo’ Simmonds who occupied the area during the mid-1900s, this beach has been popular among locals for many generations. There are five well-signposted walking trails around the reserve, varying in difficulty levels, so there is something for everyone. You’ll also find plenty of parking in and around this native bushland reserve. Keep a keen eye out for local fauna including lorikeets, rock warblers, lace monitors, and maybe even a koala or two.

Another great place to enjoy nature and recreation is Milton Park. Here you’ll find an updated and accessible children’s playground with slides, flying foxes, sand and water play, and educational elements. Look closely and you’ll see colourful indigenous drawings etched on many pieces of equipment – and there are Indigenous symbols scattered throughout the playground too. We love seeing innovative playgrounds that are exciting for children of all ages and every ability.

Across the road, you’ll find the impressive Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre which includes four different pools including indoor heated pools and a toddler pool. There’s also a colourful outdoor splash park, a cafe and plenty of space to relax.

For the keen walkers or runners, the Milton Park Loop is a scenic 3-kilometre circuit in and among these great recreational spots. Get active, get out and discover.

Next, head to the Macquarie Fields village centre at the Fields Road and Saywell Road intersection. This is a classic local village setting evoking a nostalgic memory of days gone bye. You’ll find the ever-faithful Cheesecake Shop, a classic Milk Bar, The Munoosh Shop, and the popular Royal Kebab House. You’ll also find a decadent and very colourful Thai restaurant, Betong Thai, which is a very popular local favourite.

With great natural beauty, new recreation facilities, great proximity and links and a friendly local atmosphere, Macquarie Fields is an easy destination for a family picnic and day out. We love that the area is suburban but is also surrounded by native bushland and greenspaces - a uniquely Western Sydney hidden gem! Popular with young families, this is an old suburb on the up, growing and changing with new energy and new people calling this little gem home.
