Where Interesting Happens Lebanese Film Festival, Bankstown

Bankstown is a wonderful, welcoming cultural melting pot of great people, great ideas and great food, defining the areas catch phrase of ‘Where Interesting Happens’.   Along with some amazing food that WEST loves to explore, Bankstown’s Brain Brown Theatre is the home of the Lebanese Film Festival. We invite you to come and experience the film festival devoted to showcasing Lebanese Cinema from film makers right across Australia.


 

The 12th edition of the Lebanese Film Festival begins in Sydney and runs until the 31st of August, showcases an impressive 34 films, shorts, documentaries, animations and retrospectives. Film festivals are a great way to discover the beauty of a culture and experience the unknown stories they tell. The festival’s patron, Brian Brown AM, was a local boy from Bankstown, soaring to international fame. It is a beautiful tribute to his childhood neighbourhood to now help support others in the industry.


As patron, Brian comments “Throughout this journey, we have discovered that storytelling lies at the very core of human nature. These films have not only entertained grandparents, parents, siblings, friends, aunties, and uncles, but also welcomed all Australians to immerse themselves in the captivating world of Lebanese cinema.”





The Lebanese Film Festival team has poured their hearts and souls into curating an unforgettable experience, not just for Australians, but also for our local and international film storytellers representing Lebanon. From directors and actors to writers, producers, and set designers, they have contributed their talents to unveil stories that go beyond what our eyes can see and what our hearts can feel. Through their work, they have gifted us the ability to embrace and understand a culture that has faced struggles but remains resilient and profoundly authentic at its core.


The iconic film program and events which travels nationwide, begins in the vibrant and diverse city centre of Bankstown, showcase the finest of Lebanese storytelling.



Passion is at the core of this long running film festival, a 100% volunteer-based organisation, the directors, Camille Latouf and Jessica Zeait along with the wider team work tirelessly to bring you the best of the best. Since its debut in 2012, the festival has grown into a national arts and cultural event, drawing a diverse audience from all corners of Australia. Devoted to showcasing Lebanese Cinema and dispelling misconceptions about Lebanon, its people, culture, and traditions.



A visit to the Lebanese Film Festival is also an opportunity to explore some of the amazing dining options on offer. Event partners, Bankstown Sports and Lady Banks Rooftop Bar are nearby and offer some great food options, with Al Aseel located inside the club providing the perfect complement to the film festival. Nearby located on Wattle Street in Mt Lewis, and only a short walk from the Brian Brown Theatre, is Gebran, celebrating Northern Lebanese traditional recipes and something of a local institution. Treat yourself to some of the most incredible and beautifully presented food you can imagine.
